The Talents
Panda's résumé is genuinely competitive. She can balance a chopstick on her nose with the patience of a monk. She once acquired an entire baguette — her proudest moment, extensively documented. And she howls: not nuisance barking, but proper, ancestral, throw-your-head-back singing, usually when the moment feels ceremonially appropriate to her and no one else.
The Primitive Stuff Is Real
Reading about “primitive breed traits” is one thing; watching them on your living-room floor is another. Panda curls into a perfect fox-knot with her tail over her nose. She freezes at sounds nobody else registers. She evaluates every new person from a careful distance before — suddenly, irreversibly — deciding they're family. And yes, the fastidious grooming is true: she's the cleanest dog we've ever known.
Not Always Wild
For a descendant of self-sufficient swamp dogs, Panda has adapted to domestic luxury with suspicious ease. Couches were, as far as she is concerned, invented specifically for Carolina Dogs. She has friends — carefully vetted, naturally — and she has even tolerated being dressed in a shirt, though the photographic record suggests she was owed compensation.
